Cancer Care

Preparing your body for your cancer treatment and beyond.

Cancer treatments often negatively impact the skin, causing dryness, itchiness, and inflammation. So, it is important to create a nurturing skin care routine before your treatment begins to moisturise and protect your skin. Moreover, maintaining healthy skin can reduce the risk of treatment interruptions due to skin irritation or infection.

Equally, having a simple nurturing self-care ritual can provide a sense of comfort and control.

Now is the time to create a nourishing daily routine using creams, oils or balms that have been formulated to be safe for use by people undergoing treatment for cancer.

In the OBUS clinic we always advise our clients to hydrate and moisturise from the outside in and the inside out.

Outside → in

Use a rich moisturising cream or lotion, morning and evening, to enrich and protect your skin. By applying after a shower, when the skin is moist, seals in the moisture from the shower helping to keep the top layer of our skin hydrated.

Inside → out

Hydrate: be conscious to drink sufficient water every day and consider using a hydrator.

Moisturise: include foods rich in good quality vegetable oils, fish oils and nuts in your diet to increase the amount of good fats.  Or take an Omega oil supplement.  This will moisturise and protect your body from the drying effect of treatment.

Remember…

You are going through a lot!  Lean into the support of holistic therapies. Seek out a holistic treatment, such as Massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy or Reiki, that helps you relax and reset.
